A Journey from Humble Beginnings: Tottenham Hale Mosque & Community Centre

In the heart of Tottenham Hale, a diverse community was faced with a spiritual void. With no mosque within a convenient walking distance, the closest one was a good 15 to 20 minutes away. We, a handful of passionate individuals, determined to make a difference, set out on a remarkable journey.

It all began with a small fundraiser that ignited the spark of change. With the generous support of the community, we managed to gather a few thousand pounds - a seed of hope that would later flourish into something beautiful.

Our first step was to secure a place for congregation. We booked a hall at the Ferry Lane Primary School over the summer months. It was a start, a temporary home that resonated with the warmth of shared prayers and community.

As the school year resumed, a new location was needed. With the help of local imams and community leaders, we have been able to book a hall in Hale Village, known as the Engine Room, for Friday prayers and other spiritual activities.

In the early days, our congregation was small, sometimes even too small. There was an occasion when only two people showed up, including the imam, making it impossible to conduct Friday prayers. But every great journey has its challenges, and we were determined to persevere.

To let more people know about our services, we took the initiative to advertise. A banner was placed near the small Tesco Express in Hale Village, and slowly, the word began to spread.

As the message reached more ears, the number of congregants started to grow. We went from just a handful of individuals to a group of 30 regular attendees, then 50, and now we have around 80 regular members Alhamdulillah!

Our commitment extended beyond Friday prayers. We organised multiple events, including two iftar gatherings and special events for sisters in the community. We are now hosting multiple programs for brothers and sisters which you can view here, all which serve to strengthen the bonds of friendship and unity among us all.

We became registered as a charity on 7th February 2024.

The Tottenham Hale Mosque has evolved from a mere hall to a place of spiritual refuge, a community hub, and a symbol of unity. It's a place where diverse individuals come together, driven by faith and the desire to make a positive impact in their neighbourhood.

Join us on this remarkable journey, as we continue to grow, learn, and stand together as a community, strengthened by our shared faith and the collective aim to make a positive change in Tottenham Hale.
